This topic on The Lord’s name has had some controversy, and I have been looking into it some more. First of all I’m not an expert in ancient tongues and I do not own copies of ancient manuscripts. This study is based off information that I can find from the encyclopedia, commentaries by pastors and my KJV Study Bible. The controversy is as follows; There are some who say that JESUS is not the name of the Son of God, but Yeshua. According to the encyclopedia Yeshua (Joshua) is Jesus’ name in Aramaic (Hebrew). There are also numerous variations to this Hebrew name, and it can get real confusing. We received a comment saying “that the name Jesus is wrong, that it’s really Yahuwshua”. Is this your belief? Before you go and put down or doubt the name of JESUS you need to consider that the NEW TESTAMENT was written in GREEK. The Apostles of Christ wrote down Iêsous Christos in GREEK, and in LATIN it’s Iesus. The final English translation is Jesus Christ our Lord and nuestro Señor Jesucristo en Español, tambien Jesús es el Cristo as it appears in the Spanish Reina-Valera Antigua. English and Spanish are my two languages, not GREEK and HEBREW. God knows this and has Authorized and blessed his word for us to use in these times. I trust his word, and JESUS is the correct translation of The Lord’s name.  In fact every name in the Bible is translated. Research every name and you’ll see it is spelled and pronounced differently from the original tongue.

Here are a few examples of Biblical names and how they have been translated into English. If the name of JESUS is incorrect then every name in the Bible is incorrect and we would all have to learn and speak Hebrew to be saved? That is simply not the case. Nothing in the Bible supports such a doctrine.

John is a masculine given name in the English language. The name is derived from the Latin Ioannes, Iohannes, which is in turn a form of the Greek Ἰωάννης, Iōánnēs. Nowhere in scripture did JESUS give the command or doctrine to teach people to speak Hebrew, nor is it a requirement to say his name in hebrew to be saved. I’m not denying the original name of JESUS is Yeshua, but this cult movement that is denying the English translation of JESUS is mistaken at best, and lying at worst, causing confusion. There’s also CHRIST, and only one Christ. Many of the verses in the Bible just say CHRIST, (the Anointed One). In Matt 24:24 Jesus warns us about false CHRISTS, and false prophets. In Acts 11:26 they were called Christians, after Christ. The early Christians were given the gift of tongues when they received the Holy Spirit. This gift wasn’t merely for show and tell. God had a purpose for aiding them with the ability to speak in a foreign tongue. For when the persecution came and these Christians had to relocate going out into the world. They were able to preach the gospel without having to go to school, or taking language classes, God already took care of that problem in advance; Acts 1:8, Acts 2:8. In conclusion, we can trust God; Psalm 18:30, and his promise to preserve his word for us forever; Psalm 12:6-7, Mark 13:31. We can trust The Authorized KJV is the Sword of the Spirit; Eph 6:17, and the correct English Translation. We can call on the only begotten Son of God, The Lord JESUS CHRIST with faith and confidence that he hears us and will save us; Rom 10:13.

After some more research I find out who’s the culprit behind the “Jesus is wrong. It’s really Yeshua” movement. Again, I’m not denying in any way that the original name of Jesus in Hebrew/Aramaic is Yeshua. The problem here is that this movement is denying and casting doubt on the GREEK name of Iesous, later translated to English as Jesus. Let’s take a look at who is causing this confusion by trying to revert everything back to Hebrew.

I wanted to learn if the New Testament has been translated into Hebrew for Hebrew speakers, and the answer is “yes”, but as for as the reliability of this translation, I would say “questionable” and here is why.

1st Culprit. Messianic Jews.

Messianic Jews aren’t true Christians. They are a blend of Judaism and Christianity, denying many aspects of Christianity, while upholding Jewish law and traditions; Judaism. 

The Jewish New Testament or JNT is the work of Dr. David H. Stern a Messianic Jew.

While compiling a commentary on the New Testament from a Jewish perspective,  Dr. David H. Stern, a Messianic Jew—a Jew who honors Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah of Israel—found he frequently had to retranslate certain words and phrases to capture their Jewishness. So much of this was needed that Dr. Stern set aside work on his commentary, which he had begun in 1977, to translate the New Testament. His commentary could then be completed. It was published in 1992 as the Jewish New Testament Commentary (JNTC).

Many of the endorsements for the JNT are also flawed in it’s view of this work.

Basically implying that the text which we received from the Apostles of Christ who were of Jewish descent, which were written in GREEK by them, are mistaken? Ask yourself, if God was leading them by the Holy Spirit, and they wrote it in GREEK for the world to receive would not that be the original way it was meant to be??? Let’s take a look and see why the word of the Lord was published in GREEK as opposed to Hebrew.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

The Jews rejected the word of the Lord, so it was passed on to the gentiles. Yes, Amen!

Again, casting doubt on the work of the Apostles of Christ who were of Jewish descent, who were inspired of the Holy Ghost, who published the word in GREEK by saying that this new Hebrew translation has the correct meaning they had in mind???

Response of US government

The US Navy made a decision that Messianic Jewish chaplains must wear as their insignia the Christian cross, and not the tablets of the law, the insignia of Jewish chaplains. According to Yeshiva World News, a website covering stories of Jewish interest, the Navy Uniform Board commanded that Michael Hiles, a candidate for chaplaincy, wear the Christian insignia. Hiles resigned from the program, rather than wear the cross.[162] Rabbi Eric Tokajer, a spokesman for the Messianic Jewish movement, responded that "This decision essentially bars Messianic Jews from serving as chaplains within the U.S. Navy because it would require them to wear an insignia inconsistent with their faith and belief system."[163]

The Sacred Name Movement (SNM) is a movement within the Church of God (Seventh Day) in Christianity, propagated by Clarence Orvil Dodd from the 1930s, that claims to seek to conform Christianity to its "Hebrew Roots" in practice, belief and worship. The best known distinction of the SNM is its advocacy of the use of the "sacred name" Yahweh (יַהְוֶה), i.e. the reconstructed proper name of the god of Israel, and the use of the original Hebrew name of Jesus, often transcribed as Yahshua.[1] SNM believers also generally keep many of the Old Testament laws and ceremonies such as the Seventh-day Sabbath, Torah festivals and keeping kosher food laws.

For those of you who don’t know, or may already know but need reminding. Seven Day Adventists are a false religion. A deviation of the faith which mixed practicing the Law of Moses, primarily observing the Sabbath, and claiming that Sunday worship is pagan. Seven Day adventist were started by the false teachings of Ellen G. White.

One of the founders of the SDA was Ellen G. White. A false prophetess who claimed to have receive dreams/visions.

As far as Sunday, they claim to be pagan worship. Have no fear, Jesus rose again on Sunday “The first day of the week”. Christians have been gathering then ever since. Don’t let them trick by saying we take those verses out of context either. They are pretty quite clear and straight forward. Yes, Catholics instituted Sunday as the official day of worship, but that came nearly 400 years after Christ, that doesn’t taint Sunday for Christians in any way.

You can rest assured that JESUS is the correct translation from the original tongue. You can trust the Authorized King James Bible (KJV) as the genuine and reliable Sword of the Spirit along with the Spanish counterpart the Reina-Valera Antigua (RVA). You can say Yeshua if you’re Hebrew, but do not suppose that by switching over to Yeshua and denying the name JESUS it will help bring you closer to God or help bring you favor in the eyes of God. God will be searching your heart.

If all these names sound confusing especially all the Hebrew variations don’t worry. We can trust the Word of God and the simplicity and uniqueness of the author Jesus Christ. Call on his name with boldness and confidence. God will not let you down.
